You drag it out of the shed and your heart sinks! That lovely garden furniture set that you invested in a few years ago is beginning to show its age. Worse still if your furniture has sat outside all year round through one of the worst winters we have seen for a very seen, it will certainly be showing signs of wear and tear. You don't need to throw it away and start again. You can refurbish your furniture at a fraction of the cost and give yourself a garden to be proud of. This article from Garden Furniture Scotland gives you some ideas about how you can improve the look of your garden without spending a fortune.

As you know, wood is a natural product and can be affected by environmental conditions. When you get out the furniture at the start of the season, treat it with water based wood protection as needed and tighten any loose screws. To ensure your furniture lasts for many years, please follow these instructions: a) If you have space available, store the furniture in a cool dry place over winter. Use a good quality weathercover if it to be left outside. b) Once you take it out in the springtime, clean any pieces of garden furniture often using a mild detergent to prevent mould or other dangerous substances from staining the wood. The easiest way to remove minor marks is with a damp sponge. c) You need to be aware that in strong light, resin may seep from the grain. If this happens, gently cut away the resin using a razor. The easiest way to remove any remaining resin is with acetone or a similar product. d) After this, you may treat the furniture again with water based wood protection in a shade matching that of the furniture.

If your furniture looks good and doesn't require any treatment, perhaps you might turn your attention to your cushions which might look a little faded or which might have been nibbled by mice over the winter. Cushions can make a huge difference to the look of your garden furniture and are a small investment to make. Whether you need recliner cushions for your patio set or swing seat cushions for your hammock, you can find a huge range of colours and patterns available. Most garden cushions are cotton so they do need to be taken in at night (unless you cover them with a weathercover) and, of course, remember to protect them in the winter.

Rather than investing in a new garden furniture set, you could simply buy a new Parasol for your table or a new canopy for your swing seat. Sometimes an injection of a bright colour can make a real statement. If your parasol base is looking chipped and lifeless, try some car spray paint in a complementary colour to give your garden or patio set a real lift.

Giving your garden furniture a facelift need not break the bank. Using refreshing new colours, simply replacing those cushions and canopies which are faded or damaged might be all you need to spring clean your garden. Now you can enjoy your gorgeous looking garden all summer long.
