Place plant materials in big plastic trash bags, so that you can build layers of this material for use in your compost pile. Fall is a prime season for doing this, especially after your leaves have all been raked. Make sure to put the bag somewhere warm. Once spring comes along, the leaves will make a perfect addition to your compost.

You can spray away snails by using a blend of water and ammonia. The ammonia will not hurt your precious plants, and it will later convert to beneficial nitrogen. Its effect on snails, however, is deadly. The snails will no longer be able to harm your garden. Use the water and ammonia mixture every day for best results.

Plant for fall color. That doesn't have to be it though. Fall foliage provides for the most colorful season of the year. Many trees display a range of the vivid colors of fall, from bright yellow to rich crimson, including maple, beech, and dogwood. When selecting shrubs, consider barberry, hydrangea, or cotoneaster.

Re-potting can benefit some plants, but disturbs the roots of others. To check the roots of your plants, simply up-end the pot and gently tap the bottom. The plant will slide out into your hand, and you can look at the roots. If the roots are prominent, then it's time to put the plant in a new pot. By contrast, if the roots aren't very prominent or aren't showing at all, there's no need for a pot transfer.

You can have a great experience gardening! The greater your knowledge, the greater your gardening abilities. It is always a good idea to keep learning new information about gardening. Begin by applying the advice of this article and see immediate, beautiful results.
