I'd like to share how hiring housekeeping services literally saved my marriage. First off, when my husband and I started out years ago, we thought, probably like you, that housekeeping services and paid house cleaning services were only for the very wealthy. It seemed extremely extravagant to pay someone for cleaning and to maintenance services for your house. Housekeeping was something we both thought was something that a person should be able to do themselves. Cleaning services was an old school idea that we felt was almost like keeping a maid at ones house.
The other attitude that we had about housekeeping services and maintenance services was that it was also for people who were really just to lazy to do cleaning or to keep their house tiding and well-maintained. Having a house meant the responsibility to keep up with cleaning it was the responsibility of the owner of the house.
About a year ago though, my husband and I were both too busy. The housekeeping was falling by the wayside. We were not keeping up with the cleaning and we were both blaming the other for not doing any of the cleaning. We would both get back to our house after a long day of work and find our house just as we'd left it - a mess. We both knew we needed to do a better job of housekeeping, but we also blamed each other for not being better at cleaning. We both felt we were doing a disproportionate share of the cleaning, even though, in truth, we were probably both doing about the same amount of housekeeping around the house. So before we decided to look into housekeeping services, fights would break out all the time over cleaning.
Finally, I was talking to one of my good friends about our house cleaning frustrations and fights and she suggested getting on the phone and looking into housekeeping services. She said that she'd actually been using housekeeping services for the past year and that since investing in housekeeping services, the fights between she and her husband went down - even though they had never really argued over cleaning. I argued with her that we should be able to keep up with the cleaning of our own house - that if only my husand would pull his weight with the cleaning, I thought we would be fine. Resorting to hiring housekeeping services sounded extreme.
My friend said that if our lives were less stressed in using housekeeping services, wouldn't it be worth it? She also said that housekeeping services were surprisingly reasonable, and to take into account what the housekeeping services cost per hour compared to what we were paid per hour in our own jobs.
Finally, and this is what sold me, she suggested that she phone her own housekeeping services and send them to our house the next day to do a proper cleaning and show us their full-blown services - her treat. She said to view it as a housekeeping services trial, just to see if housekeeping services really made us feel as guilty as we thought they would. Plus, a housekeeping services trial could reveal if we would keep on fighting about the cleaning and the house.
My friend was absolutely right. After that first day of using her housekeeping services at our house, we were hooked, and have kept them coming back and cleaning the house ever since. Our fights have dropped to almost nothing, and on top of not fighting, our house is clean!
If you are finding yourself nagging and nitpicking at your spouse about cleaning, rather than get them to change their ways, or seeing a counselor, you may want to investigate housekeeping services for regular house cleaning.
