Protecting Your Patio Furniture All Year Round

Most people we know who own a Patio Furniture set find the first weekend it's warm after the winter and do a little "spring cleaning." Hopefully you do this as well. One thing to remember though is that you should continue cleaning it during the summer.

If your furniture is near trees then pollen could get built up. Pets are also common loungers on outdoor furniture, and have to be cleaned up after them. Another element to take into consideration is if you are using your furniture near a pool.

See, chlorine is one of those chemicals that can eat away your outdoor furniture cushions. In order to keep them away from damage you need to wipe them down at the end of each day.

While this might be true, each type of Patio Furniture comes with different cleaning measures. For instance; wood needs to be sanded down at times if there is dirt built up. Then you also have to make sure it is stained with a protective seal.

If you are dealing with aluminum Patio Furniture then you understand it doesn't damage easy. Thanks to the protective exterior, rust is not an issue. In most cases when outdoor furniture is exposed to air, corrosion takes place.

Plastic and resin Patio Furniture needs to be cleaned with a mild detergent mixed with water. It's important to do this so hard build ups don't occur. If it does you will have a hell of a time removing it.

When it's time to store your Patio Furniture for the rest of the year, a thorough cleaning needs to take place. Most cushions have some sort of removable zipper covers, which definitely helps with the cleaning process.

This is an important step because if you decide to use harsh chemicals instead, they could eat the paint away from your set. If you have to use bleach for whatever reason, PLEASE make sure you mix it with water before spraying it on your Patio Furniture. Oh, and don't ever use it on wood either.

You should also store the patio furniture in a separate location, which is away from the base. Just do not wrap them in plastic because it only encourages things like mildew or mold.

Instead, store them in an air tight plastic container in a cool and dry place. In the event that you are unable to store your outdoor furniture in a dry place, be sure to invest in good patio furniture covers.

These should be able to fit any type of furniture and provide a heavy or sturdy appeal. This will help it withstand the weather conditions in your area. If you can do all these things whenever necessary you will have your outdoor furniture for many years to come.
