Your water bill just came in and it increased 50%. That is not right since you were out of town for the month and have not used your utilities until you came back. You checked the light bill and it was average. The only thing you can think of is leakage. You checked every inch of your home and found the culprit, your shower head.

Water all over!

What a way to welcome you from your absence. You were about to get ready to go out and buy a new shower head. You were at the door when laziness struck you. You went back and dialed the neighborhood plumber. These two solutions are a waste of money, frankly. Your shower head leak is not a complicated matter. You can do the fixing yourself, didn't you know that?

Even if you don't have any experience, fixing a leak is very easy especially a shower head leak. But before you can do that, you need to have these things first: screwdriver, wrench, pliers, lubricant, tape, brush and washer. If you do not know these things, ask assistance from the hardware store.

There are two ways on why shower head gets to leak. The first reason is when the pipe screw loosens and creates the leak. The second reason is when the holes in your shower head starts to get clogged up and pushes the water back up. Either way, these tips will help you with the fixing:

1. Take the shower head off and protect it from damage by wrapping it with a towel. Detach the head from the outlet piping and pull very slowly the old washers and replace it with new washer. Put on some plumbers tape is the area is loose. Then, screw back the shower head!

2. The new and rotating shower heads are common these days. There are times when it becomes hard to maneuver. Just place silicone lubricant on its swivel and it will feel new again. You need your screwdriver to detach the head until you can reach the swivel area.

3. If there is no problem with your tube piping or the swivel, then your holes may be clogged. You need to remove the faceplate first. The holes get clogged due to particles stuck in holes over time. It can be easily removed by soaking the faceplate or the whole shower head in white vinegar overnight. Come morning, you can easily clean it with your old toothbrush.
