Split Bamboo Fencing - Unique Fencing

Bamboo in general is a tough and long lasting fencing material. And split bamboo is no exception to this. Split bamboo fencing is used frequently in warmer, more temperate climates and is actually the preferred material in both tropical and desert regions.

Using split bamboo fencing will produce a fence that is striking in its appearance. But since it is split it does lose a bit of its durability. Solid bamboo can last upwards of twenty years. Split bamboo on the other hand may only stand up to the elements for about half this time.

Split bamboo fencing materials will be different than solid bamboo fencing materials. While most bamboo is solid, split bamboo is made out of the outer sections of the bamboo shoots. It's held together with galvanized wire. Because of that, split bamboo frequently comes in rolls.

Manufacturers often use split bamboo when they make bamboo fencing panels.

This is how they're made. When putting together a panel, split bamboo poles are connected together using 6 to 8 rows of different types of wire.

Galvanized wire is put along the top and bottom of each pole. This is to make sure that the panels are solid. In the middle of each section, more wire is used. This wire is often rubber coated so the fencing has a degree of flexibility when the rolls of bamboo fencing panels are added.

Once they are assembled, the split bamboo fencing panels are then connected to wooden posts. When these posts have been set into the ground, your fence will be almost finished.

One important thing to remember is you'll have to use a frame made with wooden posts to set into the ground. Don't let the bamboo section of the fence touch the ground, as it won't last as long when this happens. For your fence to reach right to the ground, simply use wood to frame the bottom section of your panels.

Another option for using split bamboo fencing is tying it to a wall or existing fence. You can dress up a plain wall, or use it as a backdrop for a deck area. With an existing fence, it's even easier.

Split bamboo works really well on a wooden fence because it lies flat against the fence boards. And it's no problem to anchor it to the fence just by stapling it securely to the top, middle and bottom of the fence. Be sure to use stainless steel staples. That way you can avoid rust spoiling the appearance of your unique fencing. When the panels are too wide or long, you can cut them to fit.

When you're applying rolled bamboo panels to chain link fencing, it's a simple process. You can either wrap the rolled bamboo around the chain link fence or drape the panels over the top of the fence. Then attach your panels with some heavy-gauge but flexible steel wire that you tie equal distances apart.

Why not think about split bamboo fencing in order to create a truly unique look for your deck or backyard?
