Instead of sticking to your normal annual spring routine and only planting flowers and shrubbery this year, try something different by adding a pond aquascape to your landscaping plans. This type of water feature is a great way to add unique interest to your yard or patio, no matter how large or small. It will add a tranquil feeling to just about any space and can become a fun and rewarding hobby.

Installing a pond aquascape typically involves using a combination of rocks, plants and fish to create a unique water feature. It is a fun and rewarding hobby for the entire family. Depending on how much space you have available, you could install something in ground or above ground, using various tanks or pots. A larger installation may be more permanent, while a smaller installation are completely customizable and can be added to from year to year.

This type of water feature is often more visually interesting because the species of plants used are quite different from what would be seen in a traditional garden that is planted directly in soil. Another unique feature is the sound of running water, which adds a feeling of tranquility to your space. Furthermore, maintaining a water feature is a great hobby for both gardeners and fish enthusiasts.

Since the types and sizes available are basically unlimited, it is fairly simple to find a design you will love that will also work within your space. Most pond aquascapes often includes many types of plants in addition to fish. However, there are no exact rules, so you could choose to use only artistically arranged rocks to create your water feature. These types of water gardens can be as small or large as your space requires.

A small installation would be perfect as an indoor accent piece or placed on a small outdoor patio. Glass terrariums, interesting pots or other containers are perfect for creating smaller water features. With the proper filtration system, you can even add small fish to your arrangement.

For a backyard that is on the small side, or for an average size deck or patio, it may be more appropriate to install something a little larger. An in ground feature is always a great choice if you have the room for it. To make the design even more special, try adding a waterfall.

If your backyard is quite large or if you are landscaping a commercial building or community area, a large in ground aquascape would give many options. Adding accent lighting and landscaped pathways would give the space a lush, tropical feel. The surrounding pathways would provide additional space for planting colorful annual flowers that could be changed out each season.

Planting the same flowers and shrubbery can get boring. A pond aquascape may be the perfect alternative. Adding a water feature to your space gives it a special tranquil feeling. In addition, maintaining the fish and plants can be a rewarding hobby that beats having to cut all that grass each weekend.
