Safely Burning Candles at Home

Living on Long Island, residents don't have to worry about the dry wildfire-like conditions, common in other parts of the country, but it doesn't mean they are free from residential fires. Even on Long Island, fire damage can occur and precautions should be taken to ensure that an avoidable fire is not started in your home.

There are a lot of people that do not realize that they are going to have to make a plan for any type of disaster. As you are learning how you are going to be wise about this process, you may need to work with a professional company.

When burning candles on a consistent basis, you should be sure that you know what precautions to take to keep your home safe. Candles cause over 10,000 residential fires a year and many of these fires result in death, injuries and thousands of dollars in fire damage.

First, you should make sure that you know how you are going to prevent fires in your home. Preventing fires in your home can be difficult, but with the right equipment you can be sure that you are able to minimize your chance of fire.

The kitchen is one of the biggest problem areas to focus on. There are a lot of things which could possible start a blaze in this location, so be sure to account for them.

While burning candles in a bedroom however, the candle should be far away from any type of combustible material and you will want to ensure that there is always someone in the room with the candle. This way, the flame can be supervised throughout the time that it is burning.

When you are getting ready for bed, the candle should be put out immediately. Falling asleep with a candle burning can be extremely dangerous. The majority of deaths that are caused by candle fires occur between the hours of midnight and six am. So, when relaxing in the evening candle light, make sure that you put out your candles before winding down for bed.

Another important place to make an effort to improve home safety is where there are electronic hubs in the home. Most of us have these hubs, where we plug in TVs and DVD players and phone chargers and everything else.

Be sure to not overload any outlets in these areas, and always be certain that there are no kinks are tears in cords, as this cans tart a spark very easily. Distribute things around to different outlets to put less of a load on any given point in a room.

When you set yourself up for success against fire, you can also be sure that you are going to minimize the chance of injury. Many people are hurt, and even killed, in home fires in the United States each year.

If you own a home, you should be sure that you are wise about preventing fire damage, not just for your sake but your neighbors' too. This way, you will be sure that you are doing all you can to keep your home as safe from fire as you possibly can.
