There are so many reasons to select Laurel for your hedge.
This plant copes with sun or shade and any type of soil type. It is ideal for many projects because of its speedy growth rate.
Laurel leaves are large and attractive and can be shaped and pruned easily to form a really attractive hedge to compliment your property perfectly. There are a number of different varieties of Laurel available, all of which are equally attractive and durable. Carefully consider which plants you want to include in the creation of your hedge.
Consider both looks and function when choosing your plants as depending on the results you are looking for, you must choose them well. You can create a variety of different looks with your hedge plants. The colour, texture and shape of your plants will all add to the interest and appeal of your garden design as a whole. Use just one kind or type or completely mix it up, but choose plants that you will love.
Because of its speedy growth, Laurel is an excellent choice as it can reach a fair height and block others from overlooking you in a short amount of time. This plant is also fairly dense so it can be used to create a thick barrier that is every bit as good as a wall to border your land. Hedges can be far more efficient than a fence as a deterrent to intruders.
Your hedge needs the best start in life, so don't try to plant it when conditions are too cold in the winter. The beginning of the autumn season is ideal but at any other time Laurel can do well as long as you remember to give it adequate water in the first stages. Maintenance needs disappear once the plants have become established.
In fact there are few plants that require so little care. If you were to simply put your plants into the ground and walk away, they eventually become large laurel trees rather than a hedge. Laurel's allow you to create all kinds of shapes if you prune just once a year. The best season for any pruning is spring.
A Laurel hedge will be enjoyed for decades and compliment your home beautifully.
