I'm a massive fan of DIY projects.
If I see something in the mall, I will pick it up, check it and suss out how I can do it myself at home.
I've done this with all kinds of things - from clothing to bags to home decor. So when it came to rebuilding my toilet I figured I would have no problem taking on the task.
It's straightforward, I assumed. My plan was to ask acquaintances and family for information, consult books or check online for tips on how to get it all done. Well, it became clear pretty quickly that I'd gotten in way over my head.
Restorations were one thing that I just couldn't do on my own. Conveniently a buddy referred me to an odd job man who had helped her redo a room in her home. It was the smartest move I could've made and I am so contented I did! That was about two years back. If I had tried to do it all myself, I would still be working on that rest room! No fooling!
In my case I was fortunate to have a mate who could counsel an odd job man with an indisputable past record. I knew he was reliable, supplied good craftsmanship, and best of all - was affordable. Nevertheless if you do not already know of a dependable contractor, do not be concerned.
All you need to do is be prepared and ask the proper questions.
Some important things to chat about - beforehand - are the plans, particular costs, timeframe, and so on. Don't knock down any walls or hammer a single nail thing before you and your partner are both clear on what every person will bring to the table. Trust me, taking care about this in the beginning will save tons of headaches in the future.
One of the unexpected keys to hiring a home improvement expert was that added perspective. I had a vision of installing baroque light fixtures and fittings that would hang over the mirror. After speaking it over with my odd job man, he recommended something slightly less obtrusive, explaining that those extra fixtures would make the room feel a bit crowded.
Well, he was right. I ended up ditching my original plan and going with something rather more subdued. It actually made a huge difference in the ultimate look and flow of the room!
He was also able to suggest some cost-saving building materials that looked great while also being cheap. I found out that just because it's costly, doesn't mean it's better. He showed me some great methods to economize while looking like you spent a fortune.
And now I have a fab looking room that I am quite sure I wouldn't have attained on my own!
