One of the best ways to add value to any home is by planting trees in the yard. Trees increase overall property values, decreased household energy cost, help improve the air quality and the list goes on and on. It is paramount that when you are looking for a tree care company you look at all your options to find one that works for you.

Always try considering the risks to the house and yard before you commit to any tree service. You should only hire trained and properly equipped contractors for this work. Realistically this kind of work is more difficult and dangerous than many people actually realize. Ensure they have proper insurance and know how to do the work. Do not risk anyone getting injured just to save yourself some money.

Make sure you are employing a real company. Check out their business license using the better business bureau or online. See how many complaints they have filed against them, and how many of these are not resolved. Often people do this form of work for a side business. This will not always mean that they are unable to complete the job, just realize what you will be getting into.

Visit a job site the company is currently working on. See if they are cleaning it up and there is no debris or trash piled up. Most services will always put a sign up in the yard to promote their business to people which are driving around. Always see if the employees use their safety equipment.

Try to get at least 3 different estimates. Never take verbal estimates, always insist that they give them to you in written form. The form should state the price, how long it is good for and their license and insurance number along with any contact information. If they really want your business they should have no problem doing this for you.

Never pay a contractor up front for any work they have not finished first. Not only is that against most laws, it is also unethical to ask you for it. Commonalty they are not using any material, just people labor to load, cut, and move. If they finish the job and it is not quite satisfactory, let them know this before you pay them.

When you are getting your estimates, make sure the details match up and they are all for the same work. If one is way higher than another, it is possible they have added work the others do not. If one is way lower they may have omitted work the others did not. Make sure there is some specific language about cleanup, sometimes companies try to save money by sub-contracting this out.

A professional tree care company may be the biggest difference between a well pruned healthy tree and buying a new roof. All trees are a valuable resource. Remember they can easily go from precious resource for your family to a massive burden costing you more money every year.
