For better results, one must be well equipped with the necessary tools and materials. Water is the most basic cleaning material. Get a bucket and fill it with some good amount of water. Choose a suitable detergent to enable you get effective results. One can use a rag, though a mop will give better results.

A scraper is another tool used for cleaning. It is more effective for removing tough stains like paint, insect marks and varnish. Scrapers need trained people to use them otherwise the windows may be permanently damaged. A squeegee is also useful cleaning equipment. These help in preventing streaks from showing on the windows. One has to gain some experience before they can comfortably use them.

A soft toothbrush or some cotton swab may be used to clean the corners. It is hard to get to such areas using the squeegee. Crumpled newspapers are used to give the windows a sparkling finish once the water is dry. Some people also prefer to use vinegar instead of the washing liquid. However, this may leave more streaks and lead to extra unnecessary work.

After the collection of the materials that one needs, some basic steps are followed to ensure clean windows. Using a rag dipped in the water one can rub the windows gently. This process is necessary as it loosens most of the dirt. To remove the dirt completely, you can repeat this procedure a few times.

In situations where the glass has some dirt that could not be removed by the mop, a scraper will do the job for you. It is important to note that the scraper can easily damage the window if not used properly. One should only move it in the forward direction as any backward movement may lead to the scratching of the surface. The squeegee is then used to collect the water by applying just the right amount of pressure on it.

Any corners that the squeegee cannot reach can then be dried with the help of some rags. At this point, you should check to see how the window looks and determine whether there is need to repeat the above procedure. Any traces of dirt on the glass can be removed with the scraper and dried using the squeegee.

The windows cannot be said to be clean before the frame is attended to. You can use the rags to clean and dry them while ensuring you do not dirty the other surfaces. To give the glass a shine, you use crumpled newspapers which also ensures that it is resistant to dirt because of the film that is left. Window washing tools, equipment and steps will also vary depending on availability of materials in a given locality.
