When it comes to issues of caring for the garden, one of the best experiences is having a lawn that is outstanding. Lawn aeration in Redwood city is the technique whereby gardeners punch numerous holes into soil so that there is entry of important nutrients from sunlight, water and air. These nutrients get to the roots of the grass. The moment the nutrients get to the roots, they become very healthy and strong. Grasses will therefore become beautiful.

Aeration will be useful in cases where the lawn is suffering from thatch or starts to look pale. There are various ways of doing the aeration but the easiest is to use spike lawn aerator shoes. These are pairs of molds with lots of spikes coming from their bottom and the molds are slipped over the shoes. You then walk around the garden as the spikes are placed deep into the earth. This provides lots of core holes that allow air and water into the roots.

The shoes are also great because they can be put on as one goes about their daily gardening chores. As one walks around, the grass is aerated also. As concerns the frequency of aeration, there are people that will be required to do it every few months. In cases where the lawn has been affected by thatch, should be aerated on a regular basis. This is so that the right nutrients access the roots.

It is essential to know the best times to aerate the roots. Grasses that do well in cool conditions like tall fescue are best aerated at their peak. This occurs during the early months of fall. People with grasses that do well in warm seasons like Bermuda ought to wait until late spring or during early summer for them to aerate the lawns.

There are people who opt to have their lawns aerated by professionals. This is usually done at a fee. For most people however, the aeration is best done individually. If this is the case, aerators can be found from several gardening centers and outlets that rent them. There needs to be be advance planning so that the machines are obtained in time. Some of them are heavy, so transport arrangements should be made.

Depending on lawn condition, the number of passes should be determined. One or two passes should be sufficient for most lawns. Older lawns tend to require extra passes. This is also the case for heavy traffic locations. If you are planning to over-seed, the area in question should be raked until core holes are half full. This is then followed by seed application.

After completion of seeding, there is spreading of starter type fertilizer that is rich in phosphorous, potassium and nitrogen. After that, there needs to be raking to break up remaining cores and also to spread soil over the seed. Light watering should then be done. Watering helps in keeping seeds moist until they get to germinate.

Aerating lawns is very important. It is beneficial to all kinds of lawns. For the best looking grass, it has to be practiced.
