The Many Benefits Of Lawn Aeration

A lawn that is exposed to lots of wear and tear will be suited for aeration. When lawns are aired, they will have better movement of air, better circulation of nutrients and better movement of water. Lawn aeration in Redwood City has various benefits. This is the reason it is a recommendation that this process is done on a regular basis. There will be improvement of the health of the turf as well as a considerable reduction in maintenance ability.

The process will help lawns to have increased access to oxygen, organic nutrients and other nutrients. The growth of grass depends a great deal on oxygen. The ability of grass to survive in extreme conditions also depends on the same. When watering is well done on aerated lawns, it will be easier for water to seep to the roots. In so doing, the roots will do well and therefore there will be better lawn health as turf grows thicker, softening the soil.

With enough oxygen in lawns, just half the amount of water will be required to water them as compared to if the air was not there. Beyond that, presence of air prevents running off of excess water that would lead to formation of puddles within the compound. Among the major problems experienced by lawn owners is thatch build up. Dense thatch facilitates proper movement of water and air when it has a lot of air.

Thatch refers to the stuff that is found beneath grass and soil. Natural thatch breakdown takes around two weeks or so. When the thatch is thick, it will offer perfect breeding ground for diseases or harmful insects. Soil that is compacted, sub soils which are disturbed in the course of building activity and heavy clay soils will normally encourage build up of thatch.

More air minimizes soil compaction. This process will normally occur when soils cake together because of increased pressure. When this happens, there will be reduced ability to hold more air and remove water. Inasmuch as this is vital for various processes, it has minimal contribution to healthy lawn maintenance. The main contributing factors of compaction are the rain and use of sprinklers. Aeration minimizes compaction.

The growth of weeds will be controlled. As the lawns develop better root systems and get plenty of air, their growth will be enhanced. Being that they are usually top growing, weeds take longer time to recover when compared to grass. As a result, regular grass cutting assists in spreading grass into creation of a thick bed at the expense of the weeds.

There will be increased presence of living things in the soil, notably plants and animals that reside there. Compacted soil will drive them away because of lack of oxygen and water. Animals like the earthworm which help in decomposition are essential for the soil.

Bacteria are also an important part of the decomposition of dead living things in the soil. They will help to break down organic thatch. However, they will only survive when air is present in the soil. The lawn will therefore not be healthy when there is not enough aeration.
