Basic Information Concerning Artificial Grass

Heavy uses such as football matches need surfaces that can withstand such demands better than what nature has to provide. Due to ever growing demand, companies developed a synthetic surface called artificial grass. The surface closely resembles natural grass in many aspects. Field managements are continuously redoing their playgrounds with the synthetic option because it can support frequent heavy uses. Maintenance costs involved are low making the commodity to be preferred by playground owners.

The advantages that this product has are too many to be matched by natural turf. Maintenance can be hectic because it includes many activities like trimming, fertilizing, and irrigation. This product eliminates the need for these activities and can also be used in stadiums with a complete or partial cover at the top. Various playgrounds like hockey fields and golf courses are the major places of application. Today domestic uses like backyard and lawn installations are common.

Artificial turf is however not perfect all the way, it has some shortcomings too. The first shortcoming is that it has limited life span. Although it can withstand heavy use, the period of time it can remain in usable condition is very short compared to its natural counterpart. There is also need for frequent cleaning to keep the fibers clean and healthy.

Several safety concerns emanate from the use of fake turf too. First, more serious injuries result from injuries due to friction between human body and synthetic fibers. Toxics from infill also make contact with players and pollute the environment too. As a result, producers have responded to the risks by excluding infill in products and using better types of fiber. This has helped achieve better safety.

The safety measures maintained by manufacturers have led to increased use of this commodity. Billions of tons of fake turf are produced and sold in different places worldwide. Companies produce them in terms of versions with newer versions being superior to the previous ones. As a result, major sport governing authorities like FIFA have approved the installation of this commodity in playgrounds where their games are held. This does not however mean that installation of natural grass is not allowed.

The benefits associated with fake grass have made them to replace natural turf and pavements in major airports and airstrips in the world. The surface provided by this product is safe for firefighting vehicles and aircrafts that veer off course to move on without any risks. The commodity does not harbor food sources hence does not attract wildlife besides being able to reduce foreign object damage. As a result, the number of collisions between planes and wildlife has been greatly reduced.

The ever green appearance of the turf provides a clear visual distinction between taxiways and runways even in winter. Runways are not washed away and are highly stabilized due to lack of mud during rainy seasons. The wheels of the planes do not also cause erosion of the runway due to friction. Reduced maintenance of this turf helps minimize costs and make the work of security personnel much easier during repairs and maintenance.

The products vary in price a lot. Some of the factors that affect price are brand, manufacturer, version, quality, and size. Investing in expensive brands is better because they are safer.
