Here are some of the things you should consider before hiring a lawn mowing service. Most lawn businesses are responsible and have good reputations but there are bad businesses to look out for. Local Better Business Bureau chapters track complaints against companies and will provide this information upon request. Call the provider's references before agreeing to any contract or service agreement. Always makes sure the final price has been negotiated before signing the contract.

Before hiring anyone to come to your home, always check their references. Call the people listed on their resume or references list. Talk with previous customers and find out if they had any problems with the firm. You can also contact the local Chamber of Commerce to see if the business is registered with them. If so, then ask the Chamber about the company's reputation with other businesses.

Always confirm the final cost quoted by the company. Some companies will quote one price at the beginning of negotiations but will raise the price as negotiations continue. They will try to add services and fees as they go. Always nail down the final price before hiring the business. The best way to do that is get a written contract that states the services to provided and the fees to be paid.

When considering hiring an third party provider to do the work for you, always consider the cost of performing the work yourself. Calculate how much your time is really worth, the cost of fuel and equipment maintenance then compare that to the price the business is asking. Most times, customers will find the provider's price is much better than the cost of doing it themselves.

You can contact your local BBB chapter to find out if the provider has a history of billing complaints. Some providers charge an hourly rate while other charge a flat fee. Those with hourly rates may work slower than needed and run up the bill. Those with flat fees may fly through the work leaving your with poor quality just so they can get to the next customer. Always check with the BBB for similar billing complaints.

The BBB can also tell you how reliable the company is. If the company has a history of poor quality work or not even doing the work it was contracted to do then the BBB should have that on file. Unsatisfied customers are able to file complaints against companies that are not members of the BBB. While the BBB might not be able to help solve those complaints, they do track them and will provide that history when asked.

Always meet any new service provider before agreeing to any contract. Meet in a public place first and see if you get along with the provider. Conflicts in personality and attitude can be a hint to find a different provider. Never invite a service provider to work at your home until you have met and are comfortable with him or her.

When hiring a lawn mowing service to cut your grass, make sure that you double check their reputation, pricing and quality. Always get a contract that lists the price to be paid and the services to be performed. Never hire a lawn care provide without checking them out first.
