Selecting grass for your home or business has never been harder, since you now have the option of real grass and synthetic grass. Ten years ago, there would have been no argument that the real thing was always better. This is no longer true in our advanced world. Commercial landscapers are now turning to synthetic varieties of grass, and this is becoming a trend with homeowners as well. In order to make this decision for yourself, you need to understand the key differences between both of these options.

Look and Feel

If you are only going on what your eye can see, you won't see much of a difference at all between real and fake grass. When standing at a distance or on the edge of the grass, you should look out and see a beautiful field of bright green, healthy grass. With the fake stuff, you can make it through a dry period in any climate without worrying that the grass will die out like the real stuff.

When the weather turns wet, you always have to deal with the fast growth cycle of real grass. Your home will never have that overgrown neglected look with synthetic grass, since it does not shoot up when rain is applied.

The real stuff demands attention and still dies out at times, but the fake stuff will always give you beauty and something soft to sink your toes into.

Time and Attention

Real grass must be taken care of properly, or your property will suffer. Either the grass will grow out of control or it will die back. Of course, there is always the issue of pesky weeds that like to invade real grass lawns.

If you go with fake grass, you will have a lot more time to spend doing other things besides mowing and plucking daisies. You don't have to spend hours mowing or worrying about weeds. You have to do very little on a daily or weekly basis to keep it healthy and beautiful. Your fake lawn will hold up much better to extremely hot and cold weather throughout the year.

Standing Tall

Synthetic products will always stand up to foot traffic and other stress much better than real grass. Foot traffic, bike traffic, and pet traffic is not nearly enough to do this tough stuff in. You are free to live your life on a fake turf without worry that the lawn you worked so hard to beautiful will be destroyed.

Your Final Decision

No matter what type of grass you purchase, there will be some type of maintenance involved. You will just spend much less time on a fake lawn, and that has to be kept in mind as you make this decision. Think about how you want your lawn to look year round, and how hard you really want to work to get the lawn of your dreams.

If you want the perfectly green lawn year round, you will have to go with a synthetic product. If you just love yard work and want to spend more time with your grass, the real thing may be just what you need.
